Whether your project calls for just one or several editorial services -writing, substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, publication design or production -- Online Editorial Services can respond expertly and promptly.
Most routine assignments are "non-technical" in nature and are handled at standard hourly rates. When specialized knowledge or background are required -- as is often the case with scientific, medical, legal and other professions - the work is considered "technical" and is billed at a different rate.
For most work, it is helpful for us to provide an estimate. From your description of the requirements of the work and a quick review of a brief excerpt, if available, we can determine the amount of time required to complete the assignment and provide you a quote. In the case of more comprehensive assignments, it may be advantageous to bid on a project basis rather than by the hour, and we will gladly discuss that with you.
Writing: You provide the background information and notes or we conduct the research and interviews and craft a well-written document for the intended audience and medium - print, broadcast or Web. Nontechnical: $75 per hour. Technical: $95 per hour.
Substantive editing: This involves reorganizing and rewriting your document as needed so that it flows logically, is accurate and is properly targeted to the audience. This is especially helpful for non-native speakers of English writing for an English-speaking audience. Nontechnical: $65 per hour. Technical: $85 per hour.
Copyediting: We scrutinize your final draft for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and usage errors; ensure that style is consistent; and repair awkward or confusing language. Nontechnical: $45 per hour. Technical: $55 per hour.
Proofreading: This involves taking a final look at an edited document – generally already laid out – to check for any remaining errors and inconsistencies. We usually work with copy faxed or e-mailed as a PDF file. Nontechnical: $35 per hour. Technical: $45 per hour.
Additional Terms We bill in quarter-hour increments with a half-hour minimum. When evenings or weekends are required to meet your deadlines, you may be charged an additional 25 percent rush charge. Of course we will discuss this with you and get your approval before starting.
How To Get Started Getting started with Online Editorial Services is simple. Complete the online estimate form or call us and describe your project (i.e. type of writing/editing, deadline, file format, etc.) to allow us to produce a written estimate for the job. If necessary we will contact you to discuss more specifically the special requirements of your job. Once you approve and fax back the estimate, we are ready to begin.
Methods of Payment Invoices and Purchase Orders We can accept corporate purchase orders or corporate credit card payments for assignments. For qualified corporate customers with an established business history with us, we can invoice monthly.
Credit Cards For individuals and non-U.S. customers, we require credit card payment. Once you have approved the estimate and authorized the work, we will email or fax you a form to complete with your credit card information, sign and fax back. When we begin the work for you, we simply get an authorization for the estimated amount from the credit card company. When the work is finished, your credit card is charged for the amount due and a receipt is emailed or faxed to you.
Accounting We use comprehensive time and cost accounting software to generate detailed reports of the time and work involved on your assignment. Should there be any questions about your charges, we will be glad to share these details with you. Depending on your needs, the details of our time and charges can appear on your invoice.
